Some say Jan was born with a crayon in her hand. Others say she picked one up not long after! Either way, this lefty-turned-righty first experienced the power of visual storytelling with her favorite Crayolas. Jan's love for fine art media grew with exposure to graphite, pastels, pen and ink, acrylic paint and, eventually, photography.
While studying art at Waubonsee Community College, Jan served as a public relations intern. In this role, she learned to use photography and digitally-created artwork to tell stories for both journalistic and editorial contexts.
From intern to lead photographer/graphic designer at Waubonsee (2000-2008), Jan's print and digital work supported dozens of marketing initiatives heralding seismic events in the College's then 40-year history. Among the most notable was the successful 2002-2003 referendum campaign that garnered critical acclaim by the National Council for Marketing and Communications. The NCMPR Silver Paragon award in 2004 was the first national recognition for the College's marketing and communications efforts.
